The Reform UK leader Claims Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by telling children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this negative culture.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, he commented: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves rather than current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I mean this. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. It offers these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
