Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
