Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
